In Israel, as in the US, you drive on the right hand side of the road.
You are required to wear your seat belt at all times. This applies to passengers in the front and back of the vehicle.
The speed limit and distance signs are in kilometers, not miles.
There are two national speed limits – 50km/h or 31 miles per hour in urban or built-up areas and 90km/h or 56 miles per hour on inter-city highways, unless stated otherwise.
Most road signs are in English, Hebrew and Arabic
You should leave your lights on all the time while driving in Israel between November and April, regardless of the time of day.
You may not carry children under 12 years of age in the front passenger seat (excluding infants in a suitable safety seat).
To hire a car you must be over 21 years old and the holder of a valid driving licence issued by a recognised country, or an International Driving Licence.
You may not cross the border into Sinai or Jordan in a rental car.
Before you hire your car it is worth checking with your credit card company whether they cover insurance as some rates already include insurance and you could save money.
